May 15, 2018 the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences was visited by a delegation of Leibniz Center of Oriental Studies (ZMO) in the person of Deputy Director of the Center Sonja Hegazy, research officer Kyara Anne Klausmann, the Center's assistant Florian  Degenhardt Coppenrath and the research coordinator Stefan Bastian Kirmse. The guests were greeted by the Vice-President of the TAS A.L. Abdullin, Vice-President of the TAS D.F. Zagidullina, director of the TAS Center for Islamic Studies R.F. Pateev and others.

ZMO is the only German research institute devoted to interdisciplinary and comparative study of the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia from a historical perspective. Current research focuses on the interaction between predominantly Muslim societies and their relations with non-Muslim neighbors. That’s why cooperation with Tatarstan, a multi-religious region, is very promising for German experts in this field.
