Klaus Möbius, born in Berlin, 1936, graduated in Physics from the Free University Berlin (FUB) in 1962, received his Ph.D. in 1965, and habilitated in Experimental Physics in 1969. After a Postdoctoral year at the University of California, Riverside, he accepted a Professorship at FUB in 1971. In the Department of Physics he served as Vice Dean and Dean 1991-1993. Between 1972 and 2005 he was Subproject Director of 5 Priority Project Areas of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the Volkswagen Foundation, and the European Science Foundation. 1998-2006 he was Coordinator and Subproject Director of the DFG Priority Program "High-field EPR''. He has been President of the European Federation of EPR Groups 1991-1994, Vice-President of the International EPR (ESR) Society (IES) 1996-1999, reelected for 2012-2014.

He was Visiting Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Summer 1980), the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Winter 1983), the University of Padova (Winter 1997), the Tohoku University, Sendai (Spring 2001). He has been Fellow of Institutes for Advanced Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Winter 1990/91) and the University of Bologna (Winter 2009 and Winter 2010).

He is performing multi-resonance and multi-frequency EPR spectroscopy and developing advanced EPR instrumentation. Prominent examples of his research are transient molecular systems in natural and artificial photosynthesis. Since 2009 he is Guest Scientist at the Max-Planck Institute for Bioinorganic Chemistry in Mülheim (Ruhr).

He received numerous honors and awards, among them: the Bruker-Lecturer Award of the Royal Society of Chemistry (1987); the Max-Planck-Research Award (1992); the Zavoisky Award (together with Yakov Lebedev) (1994); the IES Silver Medal Award (1996); the Roessler Lecturer Award of the Cornell University (2001); the IES Gold Medal Award (2001); the Voevodsky Award of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch (2006); the Cross of Merit (Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse) of the Federal Republic of Germany (2006) for his world-wide international cooperations. He is Foreign Member of the Academy “Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti” in Venice (2002); Fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance (ISMAR) (2009); and Fellow of IES (2011).
